Making the Transition
Moving from your house in the community to a senior housing facility is a major step in your
life. You should plan to give yourself time to adjust. There are a few steps you can take to facilitate the adjustment
process.
Invite friends and family to visit often. Visiting is important for you and for them
because it gives your family and friends the opportunity to get to know the facility staff and to help the staff get to
know your relatives.
This is your home -- personalize it with family photos, your furniture, collections and other mementos and
memories.
Remember your family members and your friends are going through a transition as well.
They are dealing with feelings and concerns that leave them under a tremendous amount of stress. Reassure them that this
is what you want for your home, that you are happy, comfortable and secure.
